Bjørnøya Bear Island

Bear Island (Norwegian Bjørnøya) is the southernmost island of the Svalbard Archipelago, about halfway between the mainland and Svalbard. 178 km² small, remote and rarely visited.

There is a Norwegian weather station on the north side of the island, which is manned all year round. The lack of sheltered bays and the mostly windy, rough and foggy weather make visits to "Bear Island" a game of chance.

The island has been a protected nature reserve with limited access for several years and a true bird paradise.
