Greenland
We, Kim Cannon, Don Shewring and I, traveled through this wonderful country from mid to late August and were amazed by the lighting, which was particularly evident in the very early morning hours. The icebergs in the morning and evening light are indescribably beautiful.
"Greenland" - Greenlandic Kalaallit Nunaat, German 'Land of the Kalaallit', is the largest island in the world and is geographically part of North America and geologically part of its Arctic sub-region. From a political point of view, it is an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Most of the land area is covered in ice. The island has, apart from Antarctica, the lowest population density in the world (56,171 inhabitants).
Most of the inhabitants live on the ice-free coast, which is lined with fjords, especially in the southwest.
Greenland stretches from 59° 46′ north latitude (Cape Farvel) to 83° 40′ north latitude (Kaffeeklubben Island near Cape Morris Jesup) and is 2,650 km long. Its maximum width is 1,200 km from Cape Alexander in the west to Northeastern Rundingen in the east. Greenland's north coast is the largest contiguous land mass closest to the North Pole, at a distance of 710 km.
