Iceberg
The icebergs are unique natural works of art, the size of which cannot be captured in pictures. You have to experience it on site! No two icebergs are the same, and when you see an iceberg for the first time, you may be able to perceive some shapes and sizes that no one has seen before.
The icebergs consist of heavily compressed snow that fell on the Greenland Ice Sheet several thousand years ago, and in some cases more than 15,000 years ago. The ice sheet is constantly changing and always moving. It produces thousands of icebergs each year that calve into the sea mainly from the glaciers in the central and northwestern part of Greenland as well as from the east coast.
The tallest icebergs rise from the sea at a height that can be as high as that of a 15-story building, while the smallest specimens are only the size of a hut. They occur all over the Greenlandic waters, but the regions around Ilulissat and Uummannaq in particular are known as the country of origin for many large icebergs that break off the glaciers into the deep fjords.
